My pathway to architecture and real estate development was unusual, particularly for a field known to require early specialization. A lifelong interest in design and the built environment led to graduate degrees in architecture and real estate development after studying economics in college and working in technology and consulting for many years.
I'm motivated by the positive impacts new buildings and adapted, existing buildings can have on people and cities, including their contributions to addressing climate change.
Many people face setbacks in their personal and professional lives. I think big-picture, positive outcomes result in two types of responses. The first is to stay the course--take the time necessary to recover and reassess and then get back on the horse. The second is to pursue a different line of opportunity based on a person's new circumstances that resulted from the setback. Both paths can lead to rich outcomes.
Over the years I've had a handful of men and women act as mentors and positive career influences--they've all had important effects on my life. One, a professor within the 5 college consortium in Western MA, pushed me hard to pursue a career in architecture--that was a game changer for me.
Always be the MVP.
Try everything.
